Why a new church for OLPH?

Our current church was built in the 1960’s. This is over 50 years ago. We have enjoyed its attributes for decades. It is obvious that the Santa Clarita Valley’s population is not what it was in 1960’s. The area has enjoyed tremendous growth and so has our parish. Within the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, OLPH is considered a large parish, serving a large number of Catholics in the Santa Clarita Valley. Yet, of the three parishes serving the valley, we are the only parish that has not addressed its current and projected growth needs. We were once the “mother” church (assisting in the building of St. Clare and St. Kateri) and now it is our time.

We have limited seating compared to the number of families we serve. Once an auditorium reaches 80% seating capacity, the organization it serves tends to stop growing. Yes, Masses are not always full weekly. However, most have reached this 80% rule. If we wish to remain faithful to Christ’s mission of reaching others with the Gospel (Matt. 28:19-20), let’s make room for more and continue to grow our parish. It’s time we enlarge our church, improve our facilities and prepare for the future. Let us pass on what was once left for us.

¿Por qué necesitamos una nueva iglesia para OLPH?

Nuestra iglesia fue construida en la década de 1960. Ha sido más de 50 años que fue construida. Hemos disfrutado sus atributos durante estas décadas. La población del Valle de Santa Clarita no es lo que era en la década de 1960. El área ha tenido tremendo crecimiento al igual que nuestra parroquia. La Arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles, considera OLPH una parroquia grande que atiende a una gran cantidad de católicos en el Valle de Santa Clarita. Sin embargo, de las tres parroquias que sirven al valle, somos la única parroquia que no ha abordado sus necesidades de crecimiento actuales y proyectadas. Fuimos la iglesia “principal" (ayudando en la construcción de St. Clare y St. Kateri) y ahora es tiempo que terminamos nuestra construcción.

Tenemos asientos limitados en comparación con la cantidad de familias a las que servimos. Una vez que un auditorio alcanza el 80% de la capacidad de asientos, la organización a la que sirve deja de crecer usualmente. With each step we take, we get closer to fulfilling God’s vision for Our Lady of Perpetual Help.  Imagine what a new church will mean to our families, to the community, and to those whom God will bring to us in the future.

• A new church will help us make room for you and others. We’ll have almost twice the amount of seating (1,200) that we currently have. With many parishioners more than occasionally standing throughout some of our Masses, it is imperative we create more seating for them, for you, and for others. It will also allow us to schedule Masses at wider intervals and to deal better with the impending shortage of priests.
• A new church will provide you with a centralized Blessed Sacrament Chapel. What could be more important than this in our celebration of the presence of Christ?
• There will be a Fellowship Plaza large enough to actually accommodate you and your family as you visit with other parishioners both before and after Mass. Currently, we utilize a garage and a driveway for this purpose
• Our new church will have a tall Bell Tower along Lyons Avenue that will be visible to people in all directions. It will serve to invite them to come and worship with you and your family at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. A Bell Tower will enhance our presence in the community, serving as a “Lighthouse” to guide those in need of Christ to our spiritual home.
• A new church will make it possible for us to convert our current worship space into a Parish Hall for social gatherings, parish wide lunch or dinner functions, wedding receptions, athletic events, Bible study groups, Men’s groups, Women’s groups, children’s and youth events, PTO and our school-related functions. The list is endless.
• Most importantly, our new church will enable you and me to better fulfill our purpose from Christ to share the Gospel with our community and the world (Matthew 28:19-20).

Con cada paso que damos, nos acercamos a cumplir la visión de Dios para Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro. Imagine lo que significa una nueva iglesia para nuestras familias, para la comunidad y para aquellos a quienes Dios nos traerá en el futuro.

• Una nueva iglesia nos ayudará a hacer lugar para ti y para otros. Tendremos casi el doble de la cantidad de asientos (1200) que tenemos actualmente. Con muchos feligreses más que ocasionalmente de pie durante algunas de nuestras Misas, es imperativo crear más asientos para ellos, para usted y para los demás. También nos permitirá programar Misas a intervalos más amplios y lidiar mejor con la inminente escasez de sacerdotes.
• Una nueva iglesia le proporcionará una Capilla del Santísimo Sacramento centralizada. ¿Qué podría ser más importante que esto en nuestra celebración de la presencia de Cristo?
• Habrá una Plaza de la Fraternidad (Fellowship Plaza) lo suficientemente grande como para acomodarlo a usted y a su familia mientras visita a otros feligreses antes y después de la Misa. Actualmente, utilizamos un garaje y un camino de entrada para este propósito.
• Nuestra nueva iglesia tendrá un campanario alto a lo largo de Lyons Avenue que será visible para las personas en todas las direcciones. Servirá para invitarlos a venir a adorar con usted y su familia a Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro. Un campanario realizará nuestra presencia en la comunidad, sirviendo como un “faro” para guiar a aquellos que necesitan a Cristo en nuestro hogar espiritual.
• Una nueva iglesia nos permitirá convertir nuestro espacio de adoración actual en un Salón Parroquial para reuniones sociales, almuerzos o cenas parroquiales, recepciones de bodas, eventos deportivos, grupos de estudio bíblico, grupos de hombres, grupos de mujeres, eventos para niños y jóvenes. , PTO y nuestras funciones relacionadas con la escuela. La lista es interminable.
• Lo que es más importante, nuestra nueva iglesia nos permitirá a ti y a mí cumplir mejor nuestro propósito de Cristo de compartir el Evangelio con nuestra comunidad y el mundo (Mateo 28:19-20).
