Message from Father Luther | Mensaje de Padre Luther

Dear Parishioners,

This Sunday is extraordinary for several reasons. For us, it is extraordinary because as a nation tomorrow we celebrate our Independence and what better way to celebrate the birth of our great nation than by offering up our prayers for all that God has given us and continues to give us. Despite what the past several years have put us through, our nation and community with the help of God have been sources of comfort and solace.

In this Sunday’s readings, our Lord commissions us to go out into the community and He sends us as a community, two by two, because God Himself in the Holy Trinity is a community.

Sometimes although he commissions us two by two, we must go in different directions…that is the case for Fr. Emmanuel and myself. Although we have both been commissioned—it is to go in different directions. Fr. Emmanuel and I were classmates at St. John Seminary. We were ordained together. He ends his term at OLPH and I have been commissioned to begin serving as full-time Associate Pastor at OLPH. The same commission for Fr. Emmanuel and myself, but at a different parish for Fr. Emmanuel and here at Our Lady of Perpetual Help for myself.

I am immensely grateful to both Fr. Craig and Archbishop Gomez for my mission here. In the Gospel, our Lord instructs His disciples “greet no one along the way.[…]If a peaceful person lives there, your peace will rest on {them}; but if not, it will return to you.” It would have been impossible not to greet anyone. You have all been so warm and welcoming. And peaceful and loving people surely live here and peace definitely and surely rests upon all of you.

I look forward to continuing ministering and serving this beautiful community. As we all go forward, the months ahead bring plenty of endings and plenty of new beginnings. Let us keep each other mutually in prayer. Please continue to pray, not only for myself, but for my brother priests as well, especially my brother and friend Emmanuel as he begins his new assignment. We all count on your continued prayers to uplift and support our daily efforts on behalf of our parish community. And please be assured of my and my brother priests’ continuing prayers for you as well.

Estimados feligreses,

Este domingo es extraordinario por varios motivos. Para nosotros es extraordinario porque mañana, como una nación celebramos el día de la independencia. Y que mejor forma de celebrar el nacimiento de esta, nuestra gran nación que ofreciendo nuestras oraciones por todo lo que Dios nos ha dado y continúa regalándonos. A pesar de lo que hemos atravesado durante los años recientes, nuestra nación y nuestra comunidad con la ayuda de Dios han sido fuentes de consuelo y refugio.

En las lecturas de este domingo, Nuestro Señor nos encomienda que vayamos hacia la comunidad y Él nos manda como una comunidad, de dos en dos, porque Dios mismo en la Santísima Trinidad es una comunidad.

A veces, aunque nos encomendó ir de dos en dos, debemos ir en direcciones diferentes…este es el caso para el P. Emmanuel y para mí. Aunque ambos fuimos encomendados con nuestra misión—esta nos dirige en caminos diferentes. El P. Emmanuel y yo fuimos compañeros de grupo en el Seminario de St. John en Camarillo. Fuimos ordenados juntos. El termina su misión en OLPH y a mí se me ha encomendado comenzar a servir tiempo completo como Pastor Asociado qui en Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro. La misma comisión y encomienda para el P. Emmanuel y para mí, pero en una parroquia diferente para el P. Emmanuel y aquí en Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro para mí.

Estoy inmensamente agradecido a ambos al P. Craig y al arzobispo Gómez por mi misión aquí. En el Evangelio, Nuestro Señor instruye a sus discípulos “no se detengan a saludar a nadie por el camino […] si allí hay gente amante de la paz, el deseo de paz de ustedes se cumplirá; si no, no se cumplirá.” Hubiera sido imposible no saludar a nadie. Aquí, todos han sido tan amables y acogedores. Y por supuesto que hay gente de paz y de amor y claro que la paz ha de reinar entre ustedes.

Me entusiasma el continuar en el ministerio y servicio en esta bella comunidad. Con el pasar de los días, semanas y meses venideros, se avecinan muchos finales e igualmente muchos comienzos. Pero, ante todo, tengamos presente que en todo esta Dios y mantengámonos mutuamente en oración. Por favor, les pido que continúen orando no solamente por mí, sino también por mis hermanos sacerdotes, especialmente por mi hermano y amigo Emmanuel en el comienzo de su nueva asignación. Todos nosotros contamos con sus oraciones continuas para darnos fuerza y redoblar nuestros esfuerzos en favor de nuestra familia parroquial. Y por favor tenga la seguridad de que yo y mis hermanos sacerdotes continuamente oramos por ustedes en nuestros tiempos de oración.
